Upload it to comics groups only, I would say, as this is where it would be the most relevant. But you're doing that anyway.

There is no limit but from my experience if you see an image incoming which 50 groups, then it can be a bit off putting - why does the user need it to be in so many groups to get it noticed?

Be confident and decisive with where you submit and after a routine is established you may find it helps improve your traffic.

Go for it! Hah. Then again I join groups and get annoyed with all the pictures (Join a comic group, get all stupid anime art) so I end up clicking off the deviations.
